Communal Healing Center: Fostering Mental Health Well-Being In Nepal Biratnagar, Nepal

Title: Communal Healing Center: Fostering Mental Health Well-Being In Nepal Biratnagar, Nepal
Authors: Prasamsa Pokharel
Abstract: "In my architectural thesis, I explore the principles of architectural design to create a
communal healing center in Biratnagar, Nepal, focused on mental health. Drawing from
research at Shepard Pratt Mental Health Institution, Lakeshore Mental Health Home,
National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Nobel Medical College in
Biratnagar, and Birat Nursing Home, I aimed to design a center that brings nature into the
site. The chosen location, adjacent to Nobel Medical College, allows for an effective
approach to addressing local mental health concerns.
I used a combination of case studies, site analysis, and environmental psychology to inform
the design process. My findings revealed that integrating natural elements within the center's
design can significantly improve the well-being of its inhabitants by combating loneliness
and promoting a healing microclimate."

Healing Centre For Cancer Care Tathali, Bhaktapur

Title: Healing Centre For Cancer Care Tathali, Bhaktapur
Authors: Manisha Sah
Abstract: "Due to unhealthy lifestyles and food habits, people are suffering from various diseases like
diabetes, hypertension, heart stroke, and cancer. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death today.
Our country's data shows that the number of cancer patients is increasing. Therefore, the project
aims to support people suffering from cancer at any stage. The main aim of this project is to
introduce new building types that serve cancer patients by creating facilities designed to meet their
needs, providing a feeling of home away from home. This thesis aims to introduce a healing center
for cancer care and define related terminologies to examine this type of building in Nepal. The aim
of this project is to help anyone who has been affected by cancer. The center will include a daycare
facility that provides counseling and various activities to help patients feel better. Additionally, the
spaces will promote healing psychologically, mentally, physically, and emotionally.
The focus area of this project is to explore and analyze the effect of spaces in the healing process
so as to maximize the body's healing potential. Human body follows and allows the mechanism of
self-healing when provided with positive therapeutic environment. Currently the majority of
human population residing in cities live in densely populated, congested environments and to top
it all follow busy life styles and work schedules. All these factors have led to increase the number
of cancer patient. The center will feature a healing garden, a yoga center, and well-illuminated
areas with nature and greenery both inside and outside the buildings. These elements are intended
to create a soothing and supportive environment for cancer patients. This project also explores the
different examples around the world which have created the healing environment especially for
patients and explore Architectural technology in therapy and ultimately introduces the concept of
a highly localized adaptive façade system that allows for individual patient control and to filter the
interactive visual relationship between patient and public.
The first chapter indicates the project overview, definition of related terminologies, project’s
introduction, describing about the cancer care center and exploring the vision, goals, mission, and
objectives of the project. It includes the philosophy followed by such centers around the world and
how they are relevant in the context of our own country. Chapter two explores the research and
study of the need and requirements of such establishments or literature reviews. This will add on
to a better understanding of practical and acceptable characteristics of the elements of palliative
care. This also includes various design strategies and ideas that are needed in a good healing center.
Understanding the psychology of patients, family members, and staff and knowing about various
functional spaces for running the facility effectively are some other aspects of this chapter. Chapter
three is dedicated to various national and international case studies for an in-depth understanding
of the project. This helps in giving a brief idea of the space sizes and requirements, helps to know
what should and should not be done, and overall proposes a brief for design starting points. Chapter
four includes the choice of site for the design with its detailed analysis required for design
decisions. Chapter Five summarizes all the information collected from the previous chapter and
gives a tabulated program to carry out the design. Chapter six is the main body that covers the
design process from concept development to design development compiling all deliverables
required for a complete project."

Authors: RACHANA PRAJAPATI
Abstract: The Newa Bhoye Chhen, emblematic of Newar culture in the Kathmandu Valley, is a
nexus of culinary mastery, community bonding, and spiritual reverence. These
architectural gems have stood for centuries, serving as focal points for communal feasts,
social gatherings, and religious ceremonies. Rooted deeply in the rich legacy of the
Newar people, these structures embody the fusion of craftsmanship, social customs, and
gastronomic excellence that define Newari culture.
Central to the Newa Bhoye Chhen experience are traditional Newari feasts, renowned
for their elaborate culinary offerings and ritualistic significance. These feasts serve as
occasions for celebrating milestones, fostering unity, and honoring cultural traditions.
Through sharing meals, engaging in rituals, and participating in cultural activities,
participants forge connections, transcend social barriers, and uphold the values of
hospitality and cultural preservation that are intrinsic to Newari society.
Beyond being dining establishments, Newa Bhoye Chhen establishments are cultural
sanctuaries where visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of Newari
traditions. Offering interactive exhibits, cultural performances, and culinary
workshops, these spaces promote understanding and appreciation for Newari culture
while safeguarding its heritage for future generations.

Content Creator's Studio Hub Radhe Radhe, Madhyapur Thimi

Title: Content Creator's Studio Hub Radhe Radhe, Madhyapur Thimi
Authors: Raj Krishna Tamakhu
Abstract: Content creation has become essential for individuals, businesses and organizations in an ever-changing digital landscape. In the current scenario, content creation in Nepal has witnessed significant growth and diversification, driven by technological advancements, changing consumer behavior and changing the media landscape. The popularity of digital platforms, growing internet penetration, and the rise of social media have democratized content creation, giving individuals and organizations the unprecedented opportunity to produce and share content across a variety of formats and channels. Companies have also started expanding their businesses on social media platforms, which has also led to the growth of the creative economy in Nepal. Content creators in Nepal are leveraging platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and Instagram to reach a wider audience, engage with followers, and monetize their content. To fill this above-mentioned gap, my thesis project focuses on creating an architecture for rental studios where content creators can shoot their videos and photos and record their audio content. This project not only provides solutions to the infrastructure challenges facing emerging creators but also serves as a collaborative space for like-minded people to come together and share ideas.
