Abstract: Nepal is prone to strong earthquake shaking. Structures are designed with seismic code of Nepal as well as of India. Several changes have been done after massive Gorkha Earthquake, 2015. Now IS code is updated to IS 1893 (Part 1):2016 and NBC is also in the process of updating and till now we have NBC 105:2019, Draft V1.3. Three types of building were selected for analysis and they were 5 storey (S1), 8 storey (S2) and 15 storey (S3). The length and width of building is 15.5mX15.5m and the typical height of floor is 3m. The total height of building are 15m (S1), 24m (S2) and 45m (S3). The analysis of these building were done by Seismic coefficient and Response spectrum method, using Nepal National Building Code (NBC) and Bureau of Indian Standard (IS Code). For NBC Codes, NBC 105:1994 Seismic design of Building in Nepal and NBC 105:2019 Draft V1.3 Seismic design of Building in Nepal were used. For IS codes, IS 1893 (Part 1):2002 Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures and IS 1893 (Part 1):2016 Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures were used. All together four codes were used for the analysis of buildings. The seismic zone for the analysis of buildings was carried out by considering it is in Kathmandu Valley. The design part is not considered in this research. All together nineteen ETABS models were prepared using ETABS V 17.0.1 software for this research with different code and type of analysis. After analysis, comparison on approximate fundamental time period, seismic horizontal coefficient, and seismic weight, maximum deflection of buildings and maximum drift ratio of buildings were compare. The approximate fundamental time period of building is maximum for NBC 105:2019, Draft V1.3., and which is about 56% higher than NBC 105:1994. The time period remains constant for IS codes. The seismic weight of building is slightly more in NBC 105:2019, Draft V1.3 than other three codes, The seismic horizontal coefficient, maximum deflection and maximum drift ratio of building is higher in NBC 105:2019, Draft V 1.3 than other codes.
