Abstract: Road transport is the primary means of transportation in Nepal and it is a type of transport using roads. The transportation has not been well developed in Nepal due to difficult topography, poor traffic management infrastructure, political instability, limited resources, inadequate budget, and the impact of natural disasters. In Nepal, road transport serves as the backbone for transportation, bridging significant urban centers and smaller towns. It offers flexibility in terms of routes, timings & destination. The design of roads start with a thorough understanding of the project objectives and requirement. Our road project aims to design and construct district type of road in ChanguNarayan Municipality (Ward no 8 & 9) which starts from JITPUR to TAHTALI hill road, which is approximately around 2442.258m. Following the standards set by Nepal Road standard (NRS 2070), each and every aspect of the road was designed. The cross section of road contains pavement width of 5.5 m and shoulder width of 0.75 m on both sides. The road has maximum gradient of 11.64% and minimum gradient 1.42%. The total filling volume is14829.51 cum and total Cutting volume is 5534.407cum. The work has been carried out through map study and cross section survey. The overall cost estimation is done using SW Road V2 software. The total cost of the project is RS. 76,153,850.32 including VAT and Contingencies and the cost per km is Rs. 31,177,627.85 including VAT .The work was carried out through topographic survey of the section using open traverse method by total Station. Then using SW Roads V2 software, the contour map of the place was created. For the Pavement design, CBR test of sub grade soil of three different samples and traffic volume analysis were done. For the design of District road, we follow Nepal Road Standard 2070 and for rate analysis we use district rate. Thus, this report gives special importance in the road design, topographic survey and cost estimation of the JITPURTAHTALI road. The aim of final project work is to achieve the level of knowledge and practical understanding of how to construct and design road and its overall cost estimation & also to create durable, safe and efficient routes for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
